Mandates declining in popularity after several COVID-19 waves
Canadian support for vaccine passports has dropped 51 per cent since August 2021, according to a recent poll.
Last year, 72 per cent of Canadians supported vaccine passports, while that number was 21 per cent this month, the Angus Reid poll said.
Canadians are also turning away from mask mandates. After two years, support for the policy has fallen 32 per cent across Canada.
The Angus poll said Canadian support for masks peaked in November of 2020, when 86 per cent agreed with mask mandates.
At the time of the poll, COVID-19 deaths had grown roughly 1,000 per cent over two months.
After two more COVID-19 waves, Canadians were polled again. It was July 2022, COVID-19 deaths had leveled out and remained comparatively stable for months. Support for masks was down 35 per cent.
After ten months without a COVID-19 wave, Canadians in December 2022 were asked their opinion on masks and vaccine passports.
Support for masks had risen three per cent over five months of stability. Support for vaccine passports had fallen 51 percent since August 2021.
