Dalhousie Tigers face-off with StFX X-Men November 11, 2022
The Tiger’s lost 5-7 Friday night to the StFX X-Men after being up 5-2 to end the second period.
The X-Men capitalized on several power plays in the third period - scoring six unanswered goals in the last 22 minutes of play.
The Tigers took upwards of five penalties in the third period, leaving their penalty kill with several minutes of 3-on-5, which proved to be a game-changer.
The X-Men scored three power play goals in the last 22 minutes of play, including their game-tying goal and the goal that would give them their first lead.
The momentum changed in the last minute of the second period.
With only two seconds remaining on their powerplay, the X-Men found a much needed goal. The period ended 5-2 Dalhousie.
Six minutes into the third period, Tigers defenceman Josh Wainman took an interference penalty during a 1-on-1 at the Dalhousie blueline.
Before Wainman left the penalty box, a large scrum inside the Dalhousie blueline sent two more Tigers to join him. This gave the X-Men almost a full minute of 5-on-3 powerplay.
The X-Men scored on a rebound less than 20 seconds later, closing the score gap to 5-3 Tigers.
Halfway through the period, the Tigers took a tripping penalty.
At the end of the penalty kill, a Tiger player broke his stick. He was forced to defend his zone without it for nearly a minute.
The X-Men kept up the pressure, and managed to bury a goal on the advantage.
The score was now 5-4 Tigers with eight minutes remaining.
StFX scored a fourth unanswered goal less than two minutes later - tying the game 5-5.
Less than seven minutes remained on the clock.
A Tiger is rushing the puck up center when an X-Men body checks him open-ice. Two Tigers retaliate, and one is sent to the penalty box for cross-checking.
Before the play stops, another Tiger is sent to the penalty box for a bench minor - unsportsmanlike conduct.
The X-Men return to a 5-on-3 powerplay, for a whole two whole minutes. The game is tied with six minutes left.
StFx scores at the tail-end of their two man advantage, securing their first lead of the game. The score is 6-5 X-Men.
The Tigers kill the rest of the 5-on-4 advantage, and pull their goalie with under two minutes remaining.
But the X-Men find an opening, and send the puck into the Tigers net from the red line, securing a two goal lead with just over a minute remaining.
The end score is 7-5 X-Men.
